Development over time by main cause of death

Laboratory-⁠confirmed deaths, Neuchâtel, 24.02.2020 to 01.01.2023

The graph shows the development of all deaths with laboratory-⁠confirmed SARS-⁠CoV-⁠2 infection according to the main cause of death.
We have been collecting the information since the beginning of September 2022. The information on the cause of death is mainly based on the clinical diagnosis that doctors record on the clinical notification. Even if COVID-⁠19 was not the primary reason on the cause of death, a connection with COVID-⁠19 cannot be ruled out.

«COVID-⁠19»: Patients for whom the primary cause of death was COVID-⁠19.
«Others»: Patients for whom COVID-⁠19 was a concomitant disease and not the main cause of death.
«Unknown»: Patients for whom the primary cause of death was not reported or its unknown whether COVID-⁠19 was the main cause of death.
