The resources needed to operate a hospital bed consist of a bed, space, medical devices, medication and qualified care professionals.
Data treatment hospital capacity:
For the period between March 30th, 2020 and November 9th, 2020, the capacities for ICU beds and total beds have been retroactively adjusted to match the patient numbers if lower capacity than patient numbers had been reported. Over the reported time period, continuous improvement steps have been taken to improve the data quality including automatic data controls when data is entered by hospitals and clinics. After November 9th, no retroactive adjustments have been necessary.
For the entire time period, erroneous entries have been corrected manually in consultation with the hospitals and clinics.
Depending on the prevalence of Covid-19 in Switzerland, hospitals are required to provide data between two times per week and two times per day. If multiple entries per day are reported, only the last entry is used in this dataset. If hospitals did not report data, the last entry is forward propagated to fill missing data points.
The data has been corrected as described above and aggregated on cantonal and national level with effectively reported values (nfp) and propagated values (fp7d).
Given that the reported patient numbers reported by hospitals are more reliable and accurate, the capacity data was retroactively adjusted to ensure a consistent dataset where capacity and patient numbers do not produce implausible results.
Currently only the data for geoRegion=CH and type_variant=fp7d are included as weekly record timelines.
